In recent years the increase in the number of people with cancer in the territories of Casal di Principe, Caivano, Giugliano and Acerra has generated a great anger among the population. Since 1980 tons of waste from every part of Italy have been spilled in the legal and illegal landfills in Campania. The situation is so serious that it has been likened to the plague of 1600.
In Casal di Principe there were too many people to know what Carmine Schiavone (now Camorra regretted) had done with the clan leader Francesco Schiavone called "Sandokan", and the rest of the criminal group: they illegally buried toxic waste in exchange of money by North Italy industries. Today, in Casal di Principe and in the countries included in the so-called death triangle, people seem to want to fight against the crime that has ruined the land that once was called "Felix". Despite the approval by the senate of the decree law on environmental emergency in the Land of fires (February 5, 2014), no real action has been started for the remediation of contaminated territories.
